It was a beautiful day in Ringwood on April 24th. The residents of Ringwood gathered for the annual Caring for Ringwood Day. The Ringwood Woman’s Club was among the groups to participate in the clean-up effort. Florence Loscalzo, Ringwood resident and Club Conservation Chairperson recalls the beginning of Caring for Ringwood Day. “It was the Woman’s club who started this effort,” she states. “I went in front of the city council with another member to request this town-wide effort. There were weeds and broken bottles in the triangle. We just had to do something about it.” Loscalzo referred to the triangle across from St. Catherine’s Church which at the time was a plot of dirt in the mid 80’s.
Ringwood Mayor Ted Taukus and the City Council recognized the hard work of the Woman’s Club and presented them with a lovely citation. “We are honored to receive this recognition,” states Josephine Law, president of the club. “We work hard and it’s nice to be acknowledged, especially publically.”
April 24th was too cold to plant geraniums in the barrels at the shopping centers and park and ride. The club cleaned up the barrels and prepped them to do the planting on May 8. Unfortunately, May 8 was a cold and rainy day. That didn’t stop the club from doing its duty of planting the flowers that beautify the town.
